One sure fire way to become overweight is to drink juice straight from a 2 litre bottle.
Let’s start with the obvious – fruit juice in a bottle is nothing more than sugary syrup that is no better than coke. With every swig, you’re probably downing more than 5-10 grams of sugar at a time. Sugar in fruit (fructose) has exactly the same nutritional benefits as table sugar (sucrose). The good thing about a whole fruit is that it contains this thing called fibre which aids digestion and assists in blood sugar control. Unfortunately bottled juice contains zero fibre.
Swig straight from a bottle and you lose track of how much juice you had. You probably swig multiple times during the day and blow your 90 grams of sugar daily quota. You look in the mirror one day and wonder why you’re carrying excess weight around the middle. Pouring juice in a glass will empower you with the knowledge of how much juice you’ve had throughout the day.
We’ve been told a million times by our parents to stop drinking straight from a bottle in regards to juice, milk, etc. We all know what to do, grab a clean glass (or reuse one you used earlier). Grab the bottle of milk or juice from the fridge. Pour the liquid into the glass. Drink the liquid and place the bottle back in the fridge. For generations, these steps have been followed by courteous people when they want to drink a shared beverage.
If you continue to swig straight from the bottle, then you obviously lack form. Executing proper form is the key to staying in shape and getting better. There are no short cuts. Swiggers like to take short cuts, because they believe they have no time to do things properly. They join the gym and go 7 days a week at first, dwindling down to once a month, ultimately stopping altogether. Swiggers develop a lack of discipline over time through bad habit. They stopped listening to their mentors a long time ago.
Swiggers are always seeking a “quick hit”. That’s why they don’t have time to pour the beverage into a glass. A habit of consuming “instant” food that is high in flavour has developed over time. High flavour usually means high in sugar, salt and fat. If you’re a swigger then your form will eventually get sloppy in all facets of life (food prep, training, etc.), and your body will soon follow.
Do yourself a favour and pour that beverage in a glass. Your body will thank you for it.
